Critical Minerals
Lithium, rare earth, nickel, copper and graphite projects with defined resources and secure title.
How We Read This Sector
Critical minerals is one of the sectors where the Canadian capital market has the deepest expertise and the most established technical reporting framework. That framework is also demanding, and it defines what a company must be able to produce.
What We Examine
Five areas that carry disproportionate weight in this sector.
Title and tenure
Claims, leases and concessions, their expiry dates, work commitments and any competing claims.
Resource definition
Technical reporting prepared by a qualified person under a recognised standard such as NI 43-101 or an equivalent.
Exploration history
Drilling data, assay results, laboratory quality control and the completeness of the historical record.
Permitting
Exploration and development permits held or applied for, and the realistic timeline for each.
Community and jurisdiction
Consultation obligations, agreements with local and Indigenous communities, and jurisdictional stability.
Where Companies in This Sector Get Caught
Technical reporting requirements in the resource sector are specific, and the report itself must be prepared by an independent qualified person — not by us and not by the company. Where no compliant report exists, commissioning one is typically the first item on a preparation roadmap.
Sector Fit Is the Starting Point, Not the Test
Beyond sector-specific factors, every company is assessed against the same conditions: a verifiable asset, documented ownership, auditable financial reporting, management capable of operating a public company, and a budget to fund preparation.
