Cybersecurity
Security products and services with certified capability, referenceable customers and renewal history.
How We Read This Sector
Cybersecurity businesses benefit from durable demand and long procurement cycles. Both of those characteristics cut in two directions: revenue is sticky once won, and slow to arrive before then.
What We Examine
Five areas that carry disproportionate weight in this sector.
Certification and attestation
SOC 2, ISO 27001, Common Criteria or equivalent — held by the company itself rather than a hosting provider.
Product versus service mix
Whether the business licenses technology or sells the time of security professionals, and the margin difference between the two.
Procurement pipeline
Realistic weighting of a pipeline dominated by long enterprise and public-sector cycles.
Incident and liability history
Any breach affecting the company or its customers, and the contractual liability position that followed.
Government and defence exposure
Contracts of this type require careful review; heavy dependence on them falls outside our mandate.
Where Companies in This Sector Get Caught
We review commercial cybersecurity businesses. Companies whose principal customers are defence ministries or military agencies, or whose products are export-controlled as defence articles, sit outside our mandate — see our selection criteria.
Sector Fit Is the Starting Point, Not the Test
Beyond sector-specific factors, every company is assessed against the same conditions: a verifiable asset, documented ownership, auditable financial reporting, management capable of operating a public company, and a budget to fund preparation.
